Review Test Shoot

Review

In this post I will be writing a review on my group's test shoot video on how it was positive and negative and what can be changed for next time.

1.
We find that our idea has translated well to film because it is an easy concept that can be achieved when we have all the professional equipment needed. I thought that the opening test shoot could have been better but it is mainly only to show the concept of the idea and you can briefly see what it is about, however, it could have been longer but that is why we do it so we can improve for the actual opening sequence.

2.
The pace was at the right length at the beginning, however, the second the girl starts running it becomes to messy and jumbled up, which we can work on.

3.
I do think it does show a rough storyline from seeing that there are three girls trapped (tied up) and one "escapes" and tries to run for her life. It is not clear in the way that it is very random and viewer might think it is confusing from how it looks now.

4.
Tension hasn't been created because there is no soundtrack and the girl didn't look as if she was running for her life, nevertheless, still shows the concept clearly. The man who is picking also acted as if he was picking a flavour for an ice cream instead of being terrified which we have to work on as well.

5.
I like the camera angle at the start that is on the three girls, as it is shifting to each girl and seeing them close up to show how frightened they actually are so that audience watching will want to help them. It also gives a surrounding of what is going on and who this man is having to choose. The camera angles could definitely be developed as we need much more footage of the different scenes so we can change up the angles to create tension and understanding.

I do not think we should take anything away, yet add more onto the opening sequence and make it longer by showing the location and surroundings so it will be more clear for the viewer. I find that we should add more on to the three girls who are tied up to show their fear and the two that don't get chosen are actually relieved which shows how horrible this is going to turn out for the girl who has been picked. We also think that more footage on the man picking would be good as it shouldn't be something easy to do. Also capture footage on who owns this game at the start of the opening sequence, with a calm soundtrack of him just going about his day until he suddenly steps into a different room and the soundtrack stops and there are the three girls tied up in agony.

7.
The parts that haven't worked is that, it doesn't flow well and that everything is too rushed where as the 1.30 minutes should care more about the boss of this game and of the fear of the girls. More footage on the girl who has been picked. Our test shoot was too short because of the lack of footage we caught which we will definitely improve for the actual opening sequence.

8.
What has worked well is that we got familiar with our idea and we really know now how we can improve it easily and make it into a successful opening sequence because the idea itself is clear and easy to make as there is no unrealistic props or locations needed. All that is needed are 5 characters and a creepy old shed which is easy to find here around the school as most houses are old fashioned and there is so much forest to choose from.

Overall, this test shoot was a learning curve for our real opening sequence. We find now that we are going to make the scenes flow much better. Add a soundtrack and add characters who will play out the roles at their best ability.
