About The Opening Scene:
The scene starts off with a man walking on a deserted street speaking on the phone to someone's house he might be trying to find. He keeps walking and suddenly only one car drives by him the opposite way, when whoever in the car sees this man walking, the car quickly turns around and drives slowly next to him. The car then stops and the man checks to see who it is, however, the car just stays there. The man finds it weird so he keeps on walking. From the little information I have seen I think that the rest of the film will be very violent. I can tell this from the soundtrack played because it is supposedly a happy song, however, something bad happening which shows a serial killer in my eyes. You can also see that the innocent guy looks quite frightened and aware by his facial expressions. The target audience for this film would be in between young and elder people since youngsters or elders will be shocked by the violence in it. The genre is thriller and the conventions that have been given to me is the dark/uninhabited location or the creepy masked man who strangles the innocent guy.
There are 2 characters who have been introduced which is the innocent man who seems normal and goes on with his life, where as the killer man whom you can't see the face of, seems violent but knows exactly what he's doing, like if he has done this several times before. There is both diegetic and non-diegetic sound in this scene. At the start there is diegetic sound of dialogue and ambient sounds then once the serial killer is strangling him the non-diegetic sound follows in with a contrapuntal soundtrack which makes it much more alarming. I found this a very successful scene because when I first watched the movie all I wanted to do from then on is continue since your interested to see why this has happened and what will happen next.
