Idea 2

Music Video Idea 2

In this post I will be demonstrating my second idea for my music video.

Song - For Real

Artist - Mallrat

Music Video -

Concept -

My first song idea is by a young artist called Mallrat, however, her real name is Grace Shaw who originates from Brisbane in Australia. She is 20 years old and appeals to younger audiences around the ages 15-25. I chose this song because it has a childlike feel to it which I thought could work well with the idea I was picturing.

For my second idea I want it to be a performance video that has similar settings as the lyrics. In the first scene of the video there will be a fake car that looks like a type of toy car. In this car there will be one guy who is driving, a girl in the passenger seat which will be the main artist and in the back there will be two or three girls who are the backup singers. What will consist in this scene is the main singer will just be singing followed by different silly dance moves that are choreographed. After this shot, I would like all of them to leave the car behind, and at this point I will switch the setting to a long alleyway inside where everyone will be standing in different spots, for this set I will use club lighting to give it excitement. I got the inspiration to use a car in my video from a music video called 'ATM' by J Cole and I got the inspiration to use the long alleyway from a previous music video last year in school.

I want the setting to be as childlike as possible, as if it were an imaginary world. This would include a large amount of different colours. To help me with this I would want to use a green screen to enhance that vibe. For the costumes, I will firstly have the male chauffeur dressed in a blue suit followed by a classic chauffeur hat. The outfit for the main artist will be a pink suit with sneakers, and lastly all the other girls will wear white sweatpants with either a blue or pink top. This will help the video sync in well together as there are different colours, however, still matching the aesthetic. I got this costume inspiration from several videos that I will demonstrate below.

Some of the stylistic elements I would like to include in this music video, would be using coloured gel or premier pro to achieve a high saturation in the video which will enhance the fact that the song is positive and childlike. This inspiration I found for this is in a music video called 'False Prophets' by J Cole. Pictured below.

I feel that the video I'm describing fits in with this specific track because I have read the lyrics and used some of them to create a scenery which actually gave me the idea of doing it in a car from the part where she says "...in my passenger seat". Furthermore, the video fits in with the star image of Mallrat because both share similar aesthetics, especially when it comes to using the two main colours blue and pink. This can mainly be seen on Mallrat's website homepage. Down below is an example of this.

An artist I found that is similar to Mallrat is Tom Misch. I realised this directly when I listened to his song 'Crazy Dream' because of the similar beats and vibrant feelings the song and video itself gives out to audiences. His music video also demonstrates the childlike feel I had going in my head. Also Tom Misch is a organic artist and that is what I want my artist to be.
