Why We Chose These Costumes

Why We Chose These Costumes

In this post I will be writing about why we chose these costumes for our star's image and style of our music video.

ARTIST

Costume 1:

She wears a multi-coloured bandeau top to separate and associate the dancers as well. The lava lamps and projections should be reflected off the top. The flared denim jeans will highlight our fashion decade in the late 70's and the bandeau is in the early 70's. The jeans will also make our artist stand out from the dancers, as the bright colours and jeans will clearly differentiate her. She will wear white trainers, similar to the dancers as well, the style is not so noticeable but will go with each outfit.

Her star image will be further associated with bright colours and the 70's style, as it is a key element within our music video. She is an artist who is following as well as starting new trends for her young audiences. This will make her more knows as the viewers that are attracted to her style will want to see what she creates next.

Costume 2:

To make the artist stand out from the dancers we thought of what would be best for her to wear in order to match with the dancer's pyjamas. We ended with a white robe followed by underclothing so that it isn't revealing and uncomfortable for the artist to wear. We chose white because it would look great combined with the projections and lava lamps.

This links in to the synth pop genre because it is showing that she has a girly side, as well as an edgy side because of the sneakers we added to it. This outfit makes the artist stand out in a subtle way as she will wear a robe and the dancers will wear similar colours to each other. This outfit will also demonstrate how the artist is organic and synthetic as the colour isn't so detailed that implies that the artist is showing her music rather than extravagant clothing. However, it will also show that she is synthetic because she is dressing in the style that most young adults are interested in, which will draw their attention.

DANCERS

Costume 1:

Each dancer will wear a white skater skirt and trainers. The skirt will allow more movement when dancing and posing on camera.

The different coloured tops, in two different styles will differentiate the dancers but still as a group as they all wear a similar style. The colours blue and pink will match the lava lamps and bring the video together and symbolise their overall star image and genre. This outfit is modern yet has the similar style from the late 70s because of the large use of colours.

Costume 2:

Our vision for the dancers is that two of them will be wearing pink and the other two will be wearing blue so that there is a variation and separate identity between them, however, still making sure that the artist stands out. These colours give off the synth pop vibe we are creating as it isn't too girly neither too edgy, as well as this, the late 70s vibe.
