Role on Set
Research Into Our Role On Set
In this post I will be writing about my role on the set and what the other people in my group are in charge of.
Alice is the producer
Gabby is the director
Tom is the camera person
My role is the editor. This job is mostly done in post production. The editor works with raw footage selecting the best shots and combining them into sequences which creates the final picture. I am the editor because I feel like I have always had a passion towards editing music videos by myself as a hobby, therefore, I found that this role would suit best in our group.
Before the shoot I won't have to prepare as much as the other roles because more of my work comes later when I'm editing the opening sequence. The only thing I should have prepared is my mind as editors don't only mechanically put pieces of the film together or edit dialogue scenes, however, also to have a creative view and give ideas whilst filming. The materials I will need is, the shot list and storyboard because it will give us all a view into how the opening sequence is supposed to look like without missing any shots either. I can also use these materials later on in post production to help me edit the sequence well, as well as this I can make sure all the scenes are in order.
My role is very important because it is my responsibility to make sure that all the footage we shoot for the sequence is organised and put well together. After we have finished the shoot on Thursday I will have to look through each video taken and choose the best ones that will be put in the final sequence. It is also important since I will have to add on soundtracks and any extra sounds that are needed to create tension.
On the shoot day I feel like what could be challenging would be that as I'm the editor I won't have much part on the shoot day, however, I have said that I will help my group on each role if it is needed and as I stated before I will convey ideas.
I will encourage the correct genre conventions by making sure I add a dark/mysterious effect onto the sequence to create suspense and anxiety to the audience. The conventions that I have to keep an eye out for are; costumes, props, tone, narrative, lighting, sound, sound effects and of course the characters.
Within my role I will fulfil the audiences expectations by editing the sequence to the best of my ability and making sure it is as realistic as can be.
